Research Track 1 - Genetics

Primary dependency: Full genome sequence (CBTP1)

Research Track 1 currently has 30 projects outlined in our roadmap. Some examples include:
CBTP01 - Full Genome Sequencing

Generate a complete genome sequence for Canada's Bronze Turkey to serve as the authoritative genetic reference. This will allow identification of unique alleles, support breed verification, and provide the foundation for all future genetic studies.

CBTP10 - Growth Trait Heritability

Quantify heritability of body size and frame traits to support selection without compromising genetic diversity.

CBTP17 - Geographic Diversity

Compare genetic diversity across geographically separated flocks to inform strategic stock exchanges.

CBTP30 - Extinction Risk Modeling

Model population viability under different management scenarios to guide urgent interventions. This is the final project due to it's numerous dependencies.

Deliverables:

Curated datasets, reproducible analyses, and concrete thresholds or tools (e.g., marker panels, registry fields, mating plans) that can be maintained year over year. Supports breed definition, genetic security, and coordinated conservation breeding.
